You Can Use the Bathroom for Business Photos Too!February 4, 2021
This title immediately demands some form of an explanation. I’ll throw in an intro before launching into said questionable title. Friends and family have requested headshots or photos of them working. I love being able to help friends with their business ventures. It doesn’t take much to get me to say yes to throwing a few headshots or shooting photos of them at work.
Now that I’ve introduced, let’s discuss the proverbial elephant in the blog, the title. Once upon a time, my sister Annie Dreher (used to be a Funk, sigh, her husband is awesome so I guess I accept her name change) requested photos for her styling business. We were at my Aunt’s house and decided to sneak away from family for a bit and shoot photos. After a while, we thought we’d finished but then, I went into the bathroom to wash my hands real quick (somehow I ended up with dirt on them, that’s about the story of my life, dirt and bruises appear after any activity). Inspiration struck as I stared at the wallpaper in the mirror. Could Annie pose in front of it? Yes–thank God for space in front of the toilet without wall art! Grabbing Annie, we snapped a few pics and it ended up being my favorite “location” from our mini-shoot.
The hardest part I think for any type of headshot or business shot, is trying to look serious. Subjects generally end up looking like you smelled something particularly unpleasant or they’re angry or frustrated or annoyed. My solution to that problem is something I don’t have a hard time doing. Take a whole heap of photos, give yourself and the client options to choose from. You could pick something that looks good; but, the subject may take one look and think that their eyebrows look deranged. That example was actually from a photo I got of myself. For the record, my eyebrows looked very disgruntled (it had been a minute since I’d maintenanced them).
At the end of the day, we got the shot(s), and Annie had options to choose from. All the winning was happening. Now, to tie this off with a bow because Pipe is turning on and I’m going to go shoot – be open to any location, mitigate people’s self-consciousness by taking a heap of photos, and always enjoy being an observer.
You too can be multi-funk-tional
Dear Reader, that catchy closing line is under construction as a Funk sometimes works best when not multi-tasking or it may endure the test of time, stay tuned, dun, dun, dun
