Is it me or is it baby fever everywhere? Speaking of,  my good friends Scott and Melissa Saville are expecting and I’m ridiculously excited for them. Melissa reached out to me to see if I had time to shoot baby photos before the last month of her pregnancy. We had a great weather window coming up to shoot at the tidepools before a big swell came. It was the day before the swell and the ocean was next to flat. That always is crazy to me, seeing the waves go from zero one day to monstrous the next. 

Fortunately, it was a weekday afternoon and the normally crowded area only had a handful of people wading in the water. This meant that I had less people to erase from the background of the shots. There were still a few that had to get removed. I don’t know about you but having unintentional (or intentional) photo-bombers doesn’t exactly say, “Wow, what an idyllic setting.” So, they “magically” disappear..

We moved throughout a small area, I shot photos camera dry and transitioned to the water with an outfit change. I had a separate camera in a housing so I could get the artsy water in the foreground. Also, I am so terrified of accidentally getting my camera wet. Better safe than calling insurance.  Speaking of slipping, the bottom wasn’t simple sand in this area, it was coral. Mind the sea urchins, don’t step in holes, the whole nine. I wasn’t worried about Scott and Melissa, it definitely wasn’t their first rock dance, they were easy to work with on the terrain.

Minus me trying to throw my t-shirt to Scott across the water when I was shooting with Melissa and having it fall short and get drenched, the shoot went off without a hitch. Unless you count Melissa going into early labor and giving birth in the tidepools as a snag in the success of the shoot – kidding, kidding – she just had to pee a lot.
