Did You Eat Your Vegetables?

A week or so ago, I felt like I was sneaking away from real life. I’d been surfing and hanging out with my husband doing the bare minimum for work. Flash dancing through posts, checking emails / messages, and putting the screens away. As much as I’ve been hiding, work managed to come in a good way. During one of those surf sessions, I talked to two separate people who wanted to do shoots (score!). Sneaking away wasn’t necessarily a bad thing in this instance.

A brand that isn’t subtle about its objective is aptly named Sneakz. Intrigued? I thought you were. The initial goal of the company was to fool kids into eating veggies who had decided that greens were O-U-T out of their diets. No one wants their littles to get scurvy, night blindness, bleeding disorders, or any nutrient deficiency-related disease. They hide the greens in delicious organic milkshakes and plant-based protein powders. Funny thing is, some people never grow out of needing disguises for veggies, leading to adult versions of the products.

My friend Lyndsey was running social media for Sneakz a few years ago and needed lifestyle photos geared towards their adult market. Do you see where this is going? Insert me agreeing and then wondering, what do I shoot for protein shakes? Fortunately, Lyndsey had some ideas and we were off!

We shot protein powder recipes being created, hiked with Meal2Go, and included a dash of surf lifestyle. The quarterly shoots we did were fun and stretched me creatively because of this new subject matter. I’ve learned that it’s hilarious to watch your friends (who you asked to model) figure out how to look photogenic while eating. Also, after finishing a recipe, you should complete the shoot by eating the fruits of your quasi-labor. And, the shots that you wouldn’t think would make the final cut, like when the protein powder gets blasted by the wind, can add unexpected levity.

Funk your greens!

Dear Reader, that catchy closing line is under construction as Funking your greens won’t get you your full nutritional value and no one wants scurvy or it may endure the test of time, stay tuned, dun dun dun
